We Know What to Do
Scripture – Matthew 5:25-26: 25“Settle matters quickly with your adversary who is taking you to court. Do it while you are still with him on the way, or he may hand you over to the judge, and the judge may hand you over to the officer, and you may be thrown into prison. 26I tell you the truth, you will not get out until you have paid the last penny.
Observation – (Write down what you see in the scripture.) This describes two people heading to court to have a dispute settled by a stranger. Jesus says to settle things quickly between yourselves. That’s a simple command that’s hard to follow for some reason. If I have a disagreement with you, who better to settle it than the two of us? We might bring in a third person to help us communicate more clearly. But no one needs to tell us what’s best. Part of maturity is the ability and willingness to work things out.
Application – (Write how you will be different today because of what you have just read.) I’ll pay attention to these words today and in the future. I will avoid letting little disputes grow into major obstacles.
Prayer – (Write out a brief prayer.) Lord Jesus, you are the head of the body of Christ. Remind me of that as life keeps moving on. In you I and we have the direction we need for solving disagreements and making choices. Give me and us your wisdom and peace this day.
