Recognizing the Easy Way
Scripture – Matthew 7:13-14: 13“Enter through the narrow gate. For wide is the gate and broad is the road that leads to destruction, and many enter through it. 14But small is the gate and narrow the road that leads to life, and only a few find it.
Observation – (Write down what you see in the scripture.) Taking the easy way is almost always an attractive option. And in a lot of day to day things it’s a good option. Our microwave serves a very good purpose. At the same time, so does our stove, even though it takes longer and involves a little more work. I get into trouble when I make life choices based on the easiest way. For example, I can go through life just catching the headlines, but never understanding the issues because it’s easier. Likewise, I can take the path of least resistance and flow along with the main stream. Or I can move against that. It seems to me, Christ calls us to be counter-cultural most of the time. And that takes work.
Application – (Write how you will be different today because of what you have just read.) I will look for the small gate and the narrow road today. I’ll avoid taking the easy way just because I’m tired or afraid.
Prayer – (Write out a brief prayer.) Lord Jesus, please empower me today to walk as you lead me. My commitment is to let you be the directing, guiding influence in my life. Give me courage and strength to live like that this day.
