The Cosmic Christ

Scripture – Colossians 1:15-17: 15He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation. 16For by him all things were created: things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or powers or rulers or authorities; all things were created by him and for him. 17He is before all things, and in him all things hold together.

Observation(Write down what you see in the scripture.) It’s interesting that Jesus Christ came to earth, in part, to give us a human face for God. God is far too great to comprehend in my mind. Yet I can well picture a person. However, even as He is “the image of the invisible God,” I don’t know what Jesus looked like, either. At the same time, it’s far easier for me to wrap my mind around Him as a human being. I’m also struck by the last line, “in him all things hold together.” “All things” covers a lot. There’s a cosmic side to Christ that’s still hard to comprehend. Yet I do know He holds my life together.

Application(Write how you will be different today because of what you have just read.) I will thank Him today for that. And as I feel my life being pulled in some different directions today, I will rely on Him to hold me together.

Prayer(Write out a brief prayer.) Lord, thank you so much for being my soul glue. Without you I would be so overwhelmed with worry and problems. Because I know you hold all things together, I know you hold me.
