The Cosmic Christ
Scripture – Colossians 1:15-17: 15He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation. 16For by him all things were created: things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or powers or rulers or authorities; all things were created by him and for him. 17He is before all things, and in him all things hold together.
Observation – (Write down what you see in the scripture.) It’s interesting that Jesus Christ came to earth, in part, to give us a human face for God. God is far too great to comprehend in my mind. Yet I can well picture a person. However, even as He is “the image of the invisible God,” I don’t know what Jesus looked like, either. At the same time, it’s far easier for me to wrap my mind around Him as a human being. I’m also struck by the last line, “in him all things hold together.” “All things” covers a lot. There’s a cosmic side to Christ that’s still hard to comprehend. Yet I do know He holds my life together.
Application – (Write how you will be different today because of what you have just read.) I will thank Him today for that. And as I feel my life being pulled in some different directions today, I will rely on Him to hold me together.
Prayer – (Write out a brief prayer.) Lord, thank you so much for being my soul glue. Without you I would be so overwhelmed with worry and problems. Because I know you hold all things together, I know you hold me.
