Words to Live By
Scripture – James 4:6-10: 6But he gives us more grace. That is why Scripture says: “God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble.” 7Submit yourselves, then, to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. 8Come near to God and he will come near to you. Wash your hands, you sinners, and purify your hearts, you double-minded. 9Grieve, mourn and wail. Change your laughter to mourning and your joy to gloom. 10Humble yourselves before the Lord, and he will lift you up.
Observation – (Write down what you see in the scripture.) This passage is full of one-liners aimed at sustaining and deepening faith. It’s hard to pick just one because each day is different. One day I may need to focus more on submitting myself to God. Another day I might need to consciously resist the devil. If there’s one that touches most days for me, it would be the last – to humble myself before the Lord.
Application – (Write how you will be different today because of what you have just read.) I will do that today. I have much to do – many miscellaneous plans for my agenda this day. I will keep my focus on trusting Christ to give me what I need. I will also keep open to His plans for me, as well.
Prayer – (Write out a brief prayer.) Lord Jesus, guide me along today. Remind me that you are the director of my life. Forgive me for taking control of your job sometimes. Thank you again for all you are doing in me and for me.
