A Simple Reminder

Scripture – 1 John 2:20-25: 20But you have an anointing from the Holy One, and all of you know the truth. 21I do not write to you because you do not know the truth, but because you do know it and because no lie comes from the truth. 22Who is the liar? It is the man who denies that Jesus is the Christ. Such a man is the antichrist—he denies the Father and the Son. 23No one who denies the Son has the Father; whoever acknowledges the Son has the Father also. 24See that what you have heard from the beginning remains in you. If it does, you also will remain in the Son and in the Father. 25And this is what he promised us—even eternal life.

Observation(Write down what you see in the scripture.) John writes to remind us of what we already know. We do know the truth. We do have the promise of eternal life. We do have an anointing from the Holy One. One description of effective preaching is that it brings out an “Amen!” from the hearer – whether out loud or in the heart. Such preaching reminds me of things I already know and it calls me to be the person God has created me to be.

Application(Write how you will be different today because of what you have just read.) I will live as Christ’s follower today. Very simply, I’ll keep that image in front of me and I’ll let it guide my behavior this day.

Prayer(Write out a brief prayer.) Lord Jesus, remind me to live like you. You’ve given me an anointing – a power – a peace – that will be evident in my living. Don’t let me lose sight of that. Thanks.
