Another Clear Word
Scripture – James 2:1-4: 1My brothers, as believers in our glorious Lord Jesus Christ, don’t show favoritism. 2Suppose a man comes into your meeting wearing a gold ring and fine clothes, and a poor man in shabby clothes also comes in. 3If you show special attention to the man wearing fine clothes and say, “Here’s a good seat for you,” but say to the poor man, “You stand there” or “Sit on the floor by my feet,” 4have you not discriminated among yourselves and become judges with evil thoughts?
Observation – (Write down what you see in the scripture.) Well, this could not be clearer. I’m just aware it points again to my thoughts and inner attitudes. I’m also aware there are many people with whom I show favoritism.
Application – (Write how you will be different today because of what you have just read.) I’ll be aware of that today. As I encounter people, I’ll be careful to treat them equally with respect. I will also monitor my inner life. I’ll ask God to work on me when those attitudes of discrimination pop up.
Prayer – (Write out a brief prayer.) Lord Jesus, this is getting harder. James is so pointed and clear, I can’t even pretend I don’t understand. So please keep guiding my outward actions as you continue changing my heart. Thank you for doing that.
