God Is Light
Scripture – 1 John 1:5-7: This is the message we have heard from him and declare to you: God is light; in him there is no darkness at all. If we claim to have fellowship with him yet walk in the darkness, we lie and do not live by the truth. But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus, his Son, purifies us from all sin.
Observation – (Write down what you see in the scripture.) In the light I can see what’s around me. In the darkness I’m surrounded by the unknown. I don’t know what direction to go. I move slowly and tentatively – not sure what I may bump into. In the light I move with confidence. Sometimes I prefer the darkness. I’ll even shut my eyes so I won’t have to see something.
Application – (Write how you will be different today because of what you have just read.) The light of Christ reveals more than I want to see. Sometimes it seems like more than I can handle. Yet the fact is, truth is always better than a lie. Light is always better than darkness. I will keep my eyes open today. I will avoid the shadows.
Prayer – (Write out a brief prayer.) Thank you, Lord Jesus, for bringing your light into my life. I find your light uncomfortable at times because I see areas of my life where I still have work to do. At the same time, your light also shows me how far I’ve come – how far you have brought me. So keep me moving forward please. Teach me always to walk in your light.
