Delivering God's Message

Scripture – Amos 8:8-10: 8“Will not the land tremble for this, and all who live in it mourn? The whole land will rise like the Nile; it will be stirred up and then sink like the river of Egypt. 9“In that day,” declares the Sovereign LORD, “I will make the sun go down at noon and darken the earth in broad daylight. 1I will turn your religious feasts into mourning and all your singing into weeping. I will make all of you wear sackcloth and shave your heads. I will make that time like mourning for an only son and the end of it like a bitter day.

Observation(Write down what you see in the scripture.) Amos continues with the message God has given him. The time of reversal is coming – “feasts into mourning” and “singing into weeping.” In our discussion last Sunday, the questions came up, where and how did Amos deliver this message? Was it one time in one place? Did he repeat it several times throughout Israel? How does a prophet function these days?

Application(Write how you will be different today because of what you have just read.) I will look into those questions. I have some reference books to check. I’ll see what they say regarding Amos. I’ll also stay open to God’s call and direction for my life. Does He have a prophetic message for me to deliver? If so, where, when and how might I do that?

Prayer(Write out a brief prayer.) As we talked last Sunday, Lord, sometimes it’s hard just to tell the truth these days. Teach me today how to do that. Use me in the various ways you will to serve you today. If you have a word for me to deliver or simply to hear, open my ears and my heart.
