So Many Choices
Scripture – Genesis 9:1-3: Then God blessed Noah and his sons, saying to them, “Be fruitful and increase in number and fill the earth. The fear and dread of you will fall upon all the beasts of the earth and all the birds of the air, upon every creature that moves along the ground, and upon all the fish of the sea; they are given into your hands. Everything that lives and moves will be food for you. Just as I gave you the green plants, I now give you everything.
Observation – (Write down what you see in the scripture.) It would seem people were supposed to be vegetarians up to this point. Before, people had the “green plants” for food. Now, they have “everything that lives and moves.”
Application – (Write how you will be different today because of what you have just read.) God has given us so many options for eating – especially in our North American culture. Having enough to eat has never been an issue for me. The Lord has blessed me in my life with plenty. I have often complained because I haven’t liked the choices before me. With all I have, I’ll want something more, something new, something different. Sometimes I even go so far as to say, “There’s nothing to eat in this house.” I will appreciate what I have. I will work to not waste the food I do have.
Prayer – (Write out a brief prayer.) Lord, you have provided more than I’ll ever need. Forgive me for taking all that for granted. Keep me aware of the food I eat today – and the food I don’t eat. Thank you for taking care of me. Give me a disciplined spirit to eat and live well today.
