Simple Directions
Scripture – Genesis 6:14-16: So make yourself an ark of cypress wood; make rooms in it and coat it with pitch inside and out. This is how you are to build it: The ark is to be 450 feet long, 75 feet wide and 45 feet high. Make a roof for it and finish the ark to within 18 inches of the top. Put a door in the side of the ark and make lower, middle and upper decks.
Observation – (Write down what you see in the scripture.) Sometimes God gives very clear and specific directions. He essentially hands Noah a blueprint. All he has to do is follow the directions.
Application – (Write how you will be different today because of what you have just read.) I recently finished a project in our garage. It also came with directions. As long as I read them and kept referring to them, I did fine. When I tried to skip some steps or do something different, I got in trouble. However, by going back to the directions (which, fortunately, were very clear), I was able to get back on track. This application is really simple. That’s what makes it so hard. Will I follow Christ or not? Today I will consciously tell Him “yes” or “no” as I encounter different situations and people.
Prayer – (Write out a brief prayer.) Lord, thank you for calling me to follow you. My deeper desire is to say “yes” to you all the time. At the same time, as you well know, there’s a part of me that steadfastly wants to refuse. Please give me what I need to overcome that voice. Continue to come alive in me. Empower me with your Spirit this day.
