Honestly Open
Scripture – Genesis 11:5-9: But the LORD came down to see the city and the tower that the men were building. The LORD said, “If as one people speaking the same language they have begun to do this, then nothing they plan to do will be impossible for them. Come, let us go down and confuse their language so they will not understand each other.” So the LORD scattered them from there over all the earth, and they stopped building the city. That is why it was called
Observation – (Write down what you see in the scripture.) We don’t live apart from God. Whether I acknowledge Him or not, He is in charge. He’s always keeping an eye on what I’m doing. The people thought they were building on their own. “But the Lord came down to see.” He recognized a bad idea was in the works. And He fixed it before it got any worse.
Application – (Write how you will be different today because of what you have just read.) When I start doing something – as good as I think it is – sometimes it’s really a bad idea. As long as I keep myself honestly open to Christ’s direction, He will always let me know that I’m missing the mark. Sometimes I need to make adjustments to my plan so it reflects what He wants. Other times, I need to scrap the whole idea. The trick is to be honestly open – so I’m not just asking God to bless what I’m doing. Rather, I’m constantly open to doing what He’s asking. I will be intentional about that.
Prayer – (Write out a brief prayer.) Lord, thank you for your protective spirit. You have saved me from following bad decisions more times than I can count. Keep me open to your direction. For indeed, you are the Master. I will never go wrong following you.
