Another New Covenant

Scripture – Genesis 6:17-18: I am going to bring floodwaters on the earth to destroy all life under the heavens, every creature that has the breath of life in it. Everything on earth will perish. But I will establish my covenant with you, and you will enter the ark—you and your sons and your wife and your sons’ wives with you.

Observation(Write down what you see in the scripture.) God’s decision here is clear. Everything on earth will perish….with the exception of Noah and all that are on the ark. A new covenant is being established – a new beginning is in the works. God has not totally given up on us.

Application(Write how you will be different today because of what you have just read.) This is Good Friday – another day of destruction and new beginnings. On this day, God’s own Son died on a cross. Jesus Christ was killed. Any life was fully gone from His body. It looked like the clear end to a good life. But….it would lead to another new beginning. In the cross, God was establishing another new covenant. In the cross, we find the hope of eternal life. In a few more days, Easter will come. That’s our hope. For today, though, I will remember Easter would have no meaning at all without Good Friday. Christ could not be raised if He was not dead. So today, I will focus on the cross. I will let my heart feel the heaviness of His death. I will enter the darkness, trusting the light of Easter will come.

Prayer(Write out a brief prayer.) Thank you, Lord, for your cross. Thank you for giving up your life for me. Because of your cross, I can embrace mine. I can enter the darkness, not unafraid, but always with hope. Thank you.

An Invitation: This coming Sunday, Bethel will be having an Easter Sunrise service. We’ll begin at 6:45am outdoors at Lions Park in Southgate. (Dress warm!) There will be no separate Mini-Journal group meeting this Sunday. Our Easter Celebration Service will begin at 11:00am in the church sanctuary. Come and join us.
