Another New Covenant
Scripture – Genesis 6:17-18: I am going to bring floodwaters on the earth to destroy all life under the heavens, every creature that has the breath of life in it. Everything on earth will perish. But I will establish my covenant with you, and you will enter the ark—you and your sons and your wife and your sons’ wives with you.
Observation – (Write down what you see in the scripture.) God’s decision here is clear. Everything on earth will perish….with the exception of Noah and all that are on the ark. A new covenant is being established – a new beginning is in the works. God has not totally given up on us.
Application – (Write how you will be different today because of what you have just read.) This is Good Friday – another day of destruction and new beginnings. On this day, God’s own Son died on a cross. Jesus Christ was killed. Any life was fully gone from His body. It looked like the clear end to a good life. But….it would lead to another new beginning. In the cross, God was establishing another new covenant. In the cross, we find the hope of eternal life. In a few more days, Easter will come. That’s our hope. For today, though, I will remember Easter would have no meaning at all without Good Friday. Christ could not be raised if He was not dead. So today, I will focus on the cross. I will let my heart feel the heaviness of His death. I will enter the darkness, trusting the light of Easter will come.
Prayer – (Write out a brief prayer.) Thank you, Lord, for your cross. Thank you for giving up your life for me. Because of your cross, I can embrace mine. I can enter the darkness, not unafraid, but always with hope. Thank you.
An Invitation: This coming Sunday,
