All I Need
Scripture – John 20:30-31: Jesus did many other miraculous signs in the presence of his disciples, which are not recorded in this book. But these are written that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that by believing you may have life in his name.
Observation – (Write down what you see in the scripture.) The gospel of John is just a summary of what Jesus did –a scrapbook full of selected snapshots. But, while there are many more stories that have not been recorded, these have been written. And in them we have enough to believe that Jesus is the Christ and that we have eternal life through Him. That’s one clear point Jesus has made throughout John’s gospel – I have life through my belief in Him. It doesn’t come to me because of any good things I may do. And it’s not withheld from me because of the bad things I do. That’s the great hope and promise He gives. I don’t have to move through life wondering if I’m good enough or afraid that I’m not going to measure up at the end. I believe in Jesus Christ. In Him I have life. And that’s all I need.
Application – (Write how you will be different today because of what you have just read.) I will live with thanksgiving and freedom today. No matter what happens, no matter what choices I make, I have eternal life secured because of what He has done for me. So I will live on the bright side of the cross.
Prayer – (Write out a brief prayer.) Lord, thank you very much for taking this burden off my shoulders. I could never be good enough to deserve what you’ve given. You and I both know that. Now I’m free to live for you – free to live a good life. I don’t do that to stay in your good grace. I do it because I am in your good grace. I am a child of the King. Help me live like one this day. Thanks again.
An Invitation – If you’re interested in a face to face discussion about what we’ve been discovering in the Mini-Journal, a small group will be meeting this Sunday morning, 9:45 – 10:30am, at the Southgate Fun and Fitness Center (on Northline near I-75). Look for them around one of the tables in the Café area.
