Seeing God
Scripture – John 17:6-10: “I have revealed you to those whom you gave me out of the world. They were yours; you gave them to me and they have obeyed your word. Now they know that everything you have given me comes from you. For I gave them the words you gave me and they accepted them. They knew with certainty that I came from you, and they believed that you sent me. I pray for them. I am not praying for the world, but for those you have given me, for they are yours. All I have is yours, and all you have is mine. And glory has come to me through them.
Observation – (Write down what you see in the scripture.) Jesus Christ is God’s clearest self-revelation to us. I can see the majesty of God in the world around me. I can feel the nudging of His Spirit as He directs me in life. As good as all that is, I still need a bit more. In Jesus Christ I can picture God in my mind’s eye. When I read the gospel stories about Jesus I have a concrete image of how God lives and acts. I have a model I can imitate. I have a friend to whom I can turn. That’s another of the gifts Christ has given.
Application – (Write how you will be different today because of what you have just read.) As I live today, I will continue my journey toward Christ-likeness. For I know with certainty that Jesus came from God. In Him I see God in the flesh.
Prayer – (Write out a brief prayer.) Lord, thank you so much for giving me a way to picture you. Thank you for taking on the limits of human form so my limited mind can have a little better chance of comprehending who you are. Please keep working in me that I may be more like you.
An Invitation – If you’re interested in a face to face discussion about what we’ve been discovering in the Mini-Journal, a small group will be meeting tomorrow morning, 9:45 – 10:30am, at the Southgate Fun and Fitness Center (on Northline near I-75). Look for them around one of the tables in the Café area.
