Name Above All Names
Scripture – John 17:11-14: I will remain in the world no longer, but they are still in the world, and I am coming to you. Holy Father, protect them by the power of your name—the name you gave me—so that they may be one as we are one. While I was with them, I protected them and kept them safe by that name you gave me. None has been lost except the one doomed to destruction so that Scripture would be fulfilled. “I am coming to you now, but I say these things while I am still in the world, so that they may have the full measure of my joy within them. I have given them your word and the world has hated them, for they are not of the world any more than I am of the world.
Observation – (Write down what you see in the scripture.) God gave Him the name “Jesus,” and the title “Christ.” We’ve pretty much made it into one name – Jesus Christ. In that combination I find power. It’s hard to explain. But it’s not a power I wield with any control. It’s the name that empowers me to do and say some things I could not without it. This isn’t making much sense, I know. I only know Jesus Christ has changed my life. He has lifted me to a new life. He continues to give me power and protection. He’s given me a point of view that’s different from that of the world around me. In Him I have new life I could find nowhere else.
Application – (Write how you will be different today because of what you have just read.) I will keep living and learning in the power and presence of His name. I will keep the eyes of my heart lifted toward Him today.
Prayer – (Write out a brief prayer.) Thank you, Lord, for the new life I live today. Thank you for understanding when words fall short. Please walk with me and use me today as you want.
An Invitation – If you’re interested in a face to face discussion about what we’ve been discovering in the Mini-Journal, a small group will be meeting this morning, 9:45 – 10:30am, at the Southgate Fun and Fitness Center (on Northline near I-75). Look for them around one of the tables in the Café area.
