Peace for the Asking

Scripture – John 14:1-7: “Do not let your hearts be troubled. Trust in God; trust also in me. In my Father’s house are many rooms; if it were not so, I would have told you. I am going there to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am. You know the way to the place where I am going.” Thomas said to him, “Lord, we don’t know where you are going, so how can we know the way?” Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. If you really knew me, you would know my Father as well. From now on, you do know him and have seen him.”

Observation(Write down what you see in the scripture.) Wow! Sometimes a short passage is filled with so many paths to explore; it’s hard to pick just one. I guess for today, the opening line catches my attention – “Do not let your hearts be troubled.” There are a lot of things going on for me right now – several different responsibilities that are all coming together at once this week. And I’m not sure how I’ll have time to get them done. I’m tempted to let my heart be troubled – to feel pressured and overwhelmed, which usually leads me to freeze up and do nothing. However, Christ has always provided what I need. Many times, in fact, God has literally created more time for me. I’m confident that what needs to be done will be done.

Application(Write how you will be different today because of what you have just read.) Much of the time crunch I’m feeling comes from my choices. I’ve taken on things other people could easily have done. I will begin today letting go of some of those things. I will trust in God. I will remember the world will not end if I fail to get something finished.

Prayer(Write out a brief prayer.) Please give me your peace today, Lord. Help me move along, doing what you have for me to do. Help me with other stuff as well. I trust you to organize this day and give me whatever time I truly need.
