No Hurry

Scripture – John 11:1-6: Now a man named Lazarus was sick. He was from Bethany, the village of Mary and her sister Martha. This Mary, whose brother Lazarus now lay sick, was the same one who poured perfume on the Lord and wiped his feet with her hair. So the sisters sent word to Jesus, “Lord, the one you love is sick.” When he heard this, Jesus said, “This sickness will not end in death. No, it is for God’s glory so that God’s Son may be glorified through it.” Jesus loved Martha and her sister and Lazarus. Yet when he heard that Lazarus was sick, he stayed where he was two more days.

Observation(Write down what you see in the scripture.) This is the beginning of an amazing story. It’s going to be hard to move through it slowly day by day. I forget most of the time that Jesus had friends. He wasn’t always in the spotlight being “the Messiah.” There was the relatively small group of disciples that moved around with Him. I’ve never really thought about the conversations they must have had. I mean, they spent a lot of time walking from place to place. Here they just seem to be hanging out together. What do friends talk about? Anything and everything! Then word comes that another friend is sick. Yet rather than leave, He intentionally waits a couple more days. His ways truly are not our ways.

Application (Write how you will be different today because of what you have just read.) I will move slowly today. Jesus never hurried from one place to another. So, I will not rush either. I will be peaceful and calm. I trust everything I need to do today will be done. The other things I want to do are not all that important.

Prayer(Write out a brief prayer.) Slow me down, Lord, on the inside. Help me live each moment, see each person, complete each task. Thank you for your peace, your example and your friendship.
