A Living Example

Scripture – John 12:9-11: Meanwhile a large crowd of Jews found out that Jesus was there and came, not only because of him but also to see Lazarus, whom he had raised from the dead. So the chief priests made plans to kill Lazarus as well, for on account of him many of the Jews were going over to Jesus and putting their faith in him.

Observation(Write down what you see in the scripture.) What was life like for Lazarus? In his sickness, I imagine he accepted his death. Then he was given a second chance to experience life. As people came to see him, what did he tell them? Did he have to tell them anything? He was a living example of the power of Christ to transform lives. While not nearly as dramatic, I’m an example of that, too. How evident is that? As I look back over the years, He has done some amazing things in me. Even in the past year changes have come. The essence of my story is what Jesus has done for me. I don’t talk about that very much, even though that’s what I know best.

Application(Write how you will be different today because of what you have just read.) I will incorporate that personal story into my conversations a bit more. I will be intentional about pointing out what Christ has done in my life.

Prayer(Write out a brief prayer.) Lord, thank you for your transforming work in my life and heart. Show me how to tell my story in ways that are natural and not annoying. Remind me, as well, that Lazarus’ life was in danger because of what Christ did for him. Please give me wisdom and courage this day as I talk with people.
