Jesus Knows Me

Scripture – John 13:18-25: “I am not referring to all of you; I know those I have chosen. But this is to fulfill the scripture: ‘He who shares my bread has lifted up his heel against me.’ “I am telling you now before it happens, so that when it does happen you will believe that I am He. I tell you the truth, whoever accepts anyone I send accepts me; and whoever accepts me accepts the one who sent me.” After he had said this, Jesus was troubled in spirit and testified, “I tell you the truth, one of you is going to betray me.” His disciples stared at one another, at a loss to know which of them he meant. One of them, the disciple whom Jesus loved, was reclining next to him. Simon Peter motioned to this disciple and said, “Ask him which one he means.” Leaning back against Jesus, he asked him, “Lord, who is it?”

Observation(Write down what you see in the scripture.) “I know those I have chosen.” When Jesus called me to follow Him, He knew what He was doing. He knows all about me. There is nothing hidden. He has always seen more in me than I see in myself. Part of what He does for me is lift me above my own limitations. He knows there’s a bit of Judas in me, just as there’s a bit of Peter, Thomas, Philip, etc. The good news is His love trumps all of that. He knows what I can and cannot do. He knows what I will and will not do. At the same time, He loves me, and He continues to see the moreness in me this day.

Application(Write how you will be different today because of what you have just read.) I will let that moreness come out. I will trust Christ’s faith in me. I will let Him use me as He wants. I will accept His forgiveness along with His call.

Prayer(Write out a brief prayer.) Lord, you know very well there are days when I’m the one who is going to betray you. And there are days when I will stand with you faithfully. Help me remember your love for me is not based on how good or bad I might be. Your love is unconditional. Thank you for trusting me. Lift me today to a new height. Use me as you want.

An Invitation – If you’re interested in a face to face discussion about what we’ve been discovering in the Mini-Journal, a small group will be meeting this Sunday morning, 9:45 – 10:30am, at the Southgate Fun and Fitness Center (on Northline near I-75). Look for them around one of the tables in the Cafe.
