God's Timing

Scripture – John 11:7-11: Then he said to his disciples, “Let us go back to Judea.” “But Rabbi,” they said, “a short while ago the Jews tried to stone you, and yet you are going back there?” Jesus answered, “Are there not twelve hours of daylight? A man who walks by day will not stumble, for he sees by this world’s light. It is when he walks by night that he stumbles, for he has no light.” After he had said this, he went on to tell them, “Our friend Lazarus has fallen asleep; but I am going there to wake him up.”

Observation – (Write down what you see in the scripture.) Who of us understands God’s timing? I only know if I pay attention, He will let me know when to move. Many times I have responded at the right time. For example, I’ll drop by to see someone and it turns out to be the perfect time. It’s nothing the two of us planned. It’s a matter of the Holy Spirit working through that underground communication network He uses. Other times I have not responded to God’s immediate call to act, and it turned out that an opportunity was missed. Jesus, of course, had the great advantage of being God. So He knew exactly what He was doing. His disciples, however, could only follow His lead, even if they didn’t understand what He was doing. In that we share a common bond with them.

Application – (Write how you will be different today because of what you have just read.) I will keep consciously tuned into the Spirit’s nudging today. I have several phone calls I’ve been putting off. I’ll make them today.

Prayer – (Write out a brief prayer.) Lord, please increase my spiritual sensitivity today. I want to follow your lead. Empower me to do that – to look beyond myself and my agenda. Thanks.
